A Weekend in Whistler

What a gorgeous weekend to spend in Whistler!! I can't ask for more than nice sunny weather. Ray, Shirmy, Kim and I skiied at Blackcomb. Even though there wasn't fresh snow, the snow conditions were still good and it was sure hot while we were skiing. I guess the sun is closer as we get to the highest elevation on the mountain. At night, the temperature could dip down to -4C. It was very cold walking around in the village. Now that I'm back, I think I better gear up for my next race which is a 5K snowshoeing race this coming Saturday. I have to recuperate from the last weekend race and this weekend's skiing :) Check back here in a week.

Chilly Chase 5 K Run

Today's weather was really cold and even some of the roads were icy, hence the name of the race "Chilly Chase". Despite the weather, a lot of people showed up and participated in the race. Ray's parents came out and saw us run. Thanks for the support! :) Well, I haven't been training too much in running except for snowshoeing. I realized from today's race that running, as opposed to snowshoeing, uses different muscles of the legs. I managed to finish the race in 30:52 mins for a 5K, considering that there were a few slip incidents from the black ice. The icy road slowed me down a lot because I was not confident enough to run and not fall on it. I might not run this race next year if the weather happens to be the same like today. Alright, let's get to the race results. I am happy to tell you guys that Ray came in 1st out of 27 for males and 2nd overall out of 77 (1st out of 7 in his age group)!! His time was 21:19mins!! Speedy gonzales! As for me, my time placed me 7th out of 50 for females and 19th overall out of 70 (4th out of 19 in my age group). I'm pretty happy with my performance. Don't you think so?? :) You can check out the results at the Raceheadquarters website. The next race for us will be a snowshoeing 5K run at Mount Seymour on Feb 3rd. Check back on my blog later and until then, SAYONARA!!! :) Below is a pic of Ray showing off his medals.

Snowshoeing at Cypress

It was really fun doing snowshoeing at Cypress for the first time. Cypress received about 50cm of new snow for the last 2 days. Shirmy came with us and it was her first time snowshoeing. Pretty good being a first-timer. We went through Hollyburn Lodge twice and Upper Warming Hut once as you can see from the pictures. Ray was making snow angels as usual. What a snow lover!!! :) Even though visibility wasn't that great, there were still lots of people snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and tubing. If anyone is interested in trying out a new winter sport, you know where to find me :) Ray and I go up to Grouse Mountain every Thursday night. You can check out their website at http://www.grousemountain.com/rec_sno.cfm.

Ringing in the New Year of 2007

Happy New Year everyone! Well...2006 is behind us now. Let us welcome the new year of 2007. Hope this new year brings the best of health, peace, joy and prosperity to all of you. No matter if the memories of 2006 were good or bad, let us all learn and cherish from them in this new year. Last night on New Year's eve, I went to my friend's house to do the countdown and also rang in the new year.
It was a good time, just like many other times, right? :) See you all in the New Year!!!
